So, what makes Gulu Private Resort that offers accommodation for holiday makers and backpackers on the R72, Sunshine Coast so special? The great untouched landscape; the friendly locals or maybe it’s just the vibrant holidays that make the Sunshine Coast just a little “Sunnier”? Most probably different things for different people like our Wedding Venue, Chapel, Wedding Reception, Bridal Dressing Room, Wedding Couple Honey Moon Suite  and Entertainment Area. What we do know is that it is a Wedding Venue or Holiday destination option that is hard to beat. Our River Resort is filled with dreamy thoughts, lots of laidback romance and outdoor adventures.

Some places have great rivers; some have outstanding beaches while others have waterfalls and mountains. Some things are constant however; lush forests, tropical climates and majestic sunrises and sunsets seen from your backpackers or holiday cottages. A great way to see the coastline from a different perspective is from the sea or by 4x4 (See Adventure World on our web pages). In doing so, you might also get sight of the many whales and abundance of dolphins common to the area. There are so many things that will really impress you.

The R72 Coastal Road, a stone throw away from East London Airport has everything a traveler needs, there’s great fishing, wildlife and long beaches. Activities like swimming, horse riding, surfing and canoeing. But it doesn’t end there; off the beaten track, whether you get there by hiking or with your 4X4, you’ll find abundant cultural heritage, rare exotic birdlife and if you’re lucky, some of the Big 5. Day Game drives at Mpongo Park & Inkwenkwezi Game Reserve.

 Upon your arrival, no 4x4 needed, staying in our semi-self catering units or backpackers/dormitory, it won’t take you long to pick up on the relaxed atmosphere and slow rhythm of Gulu Private Resort. There is no  real structure here, but we have real harmony. Guests get an early start, to maximize the full day. Everyone arrives for breakfast, then disperse on their separate journeys. Some go fishing; the young hit the beach, either for the sun or for the surf, while some just meander around checking out the local area. Afterwords, all return for sundowners and cool beverages on our lovely deck.

Winter is always a reason for much excitement and celebration. Gulu owns a private cellar for the wine enthusiast. It can be enjoyed in our cosy bar, or in our warmly decorated choice of en-suite rooms, dormitory/backpackers or tents.

 From the edge of the Gulu River, which runs alongside the property, there are spectacular views of surrounding small islands and beautiful, indigenous forestry and fascinating birdlife. We love animals and would like to share “Nature at its Best” with you. Our Aviary  has over 20 different bird species and just over 120 birds i.e. Hawkheaded & Cape Parrots, Von der Decken Hornbills, Turaco’s, Cockatoos like the Goffin & Sulphur Crested, African Greys, Ringnecks, Tucamons, Dabians, Ringnecks, Pionus and many more. Our baby, the blue & gold Macaw is our treasure and one of 6.
